Meet Ursula – Owner of The Flower Bank

45a Leicester Road, EN5 5EW

https://www.theflowerbank.org.uk/

Ursula opened The Flower Bank in New Barnet in December 2019, having received support via Crowdfund Barnet. The Flower Bank is a zero-waste flower shop and garden centre which aims to reduce waste by repurposing end of shelf life flowers into revitalised bouquets and arrangements. A social enterprise, the shop also works with young offenders and hosts community flower arranging workshops, delivering arrangements to care homes and elderly residents.

“The way we work, we never know what’s going to be here. It all depends what discarded flowers we’ve picked up that day from the supermarkets and other retailers. So we really encourage people to drop in, to check up and see what we’ve got from our latest delivery. And that really works. It’s a really nice way of getting know our friends and our neighbours.

“We’ve become quite involved in our local community. We have lots of volunteers and we’re really developing a lovely atmosphere of people in the area who feel comfortable to come here and to chat to see what we’ve got in.

“It’s important to shop locally because it makes our community stronger, safer and a happier place to live. This year has been like no other, so it’s even more important than ever to support your local shops because retail through Corona has been really badly damaged.”
