Overview

In Barnet, there are roads where parking is limited or not allowed. Single and double yellow lines operate during specified times and days, and form part of these parking restrictions.

Following concerns raised by residents about non-residential parking in the area surrounding Ark Pioneer Academy, the council is proposing to review the parking restrictions.

The existing single yellow line restrictions were introduced in the area around Underhill Football Club as a safety measure to control parking on match days. The roads included in the area were:

  • Barnet Lane
  • Fairfield Way (northern section between the junctions of Westcombe Drive and Barnet Hill)
  • Westcombe Drive

The football stadium became an educational skills centre and has now been replaced by The Ark Pioneer Academy. The Ark Pioneer Academy opens from Monday to Friday 8am-4pm.

What we are proposing

To address resident concerns, we are reviewing the operational days and times of the waiting restrictions (single yellow lines) in the area to address the local parking issues.

We are also proposing to introduce double yellow lines on junctions and bends to enhance road safety.

Alongside this engagement, we have also engaged the services of an external agency to carry out parking stress surveys on the roads in the area. This will help determine whether any changes may be required to improve parking opportunities for residents and businesses as well as accessibility and road safety.

We have provided more information below:

Your views are important to us

We want to hear from residents, businesses and other properties in the local area.

We have written to all properties in the roads affected by the measures explaining our proposals in full and inviting them to take part in this review. You can view the letter sent out here.

In addition, street notices will be erected in the proposed roads providing the information for the online questionnaire.

If you live, have a business or have an organisation in the affected roads and have not received a letter, please contact us using the contact details below, quoting reference number SCR639.

How to have your say:

Please take the time to read the details above and then complete our online questionnaire.

If you would like to request a paper questionnaire and any plans showing the proposed area, please contact us quoting reference SCR639, by:

  • emailing parking.consultations@barnet.gov.uk
  • telephoning the Traffic and Development Section on 020 8359 3555.
  • writing to: Traffic and Development Section, London Borough of Barnet, 3rd Floor, Highways, 2 Bristol Avenue, Colindale, London, NW9 4EW

If you would like someone to help you complete the questionnaire or need more information, please contact us using one of the above methods, quoting reference SCR639

The closing date for submitting your views is 2 June 2025

What happens after the consultation closes?

We will use the engagement findings to inform our next steps. We will publish the results of the review, our recommendations and how we are acting on the results of the review on this web page by the end of August 2025
