Burnt Oak Night Time Study
Barnet Council has commissioned Nexus consultants to deliver a study which will look at how Burnt Oak can be improved after dark. Their work will include extensive data collection, onsite evening and night time observations, community engagement, consultation activities and a resident survey to gather as much information as possible.
The purpose of the night-time study will be to build an in-depth understanding of the how the diverse population who, live, use, work in and visit Burnt Oak and the surrounding areas, feel about the town during the evening and night-time hours, between 6pm and 6am. The team have begun to conduct on site observation and analysis supported by in-person surveys and interviews in the public realm, and themed engagement workshops with community and voluntary organisations, youth groups and other key stakeholders.
The study will investigate the challenges and opportunities faced by users in relation to wayfinding, transport, lighting, public amenities, safety, both perceived and experienced, street scene, streetscape legibility, lighting and generally the evening and night-time experience. The outcomes will provide guidance for future possible improvements to the night-time environment in Burnt Oak, and potentially a brough wide night time strategy building on the knowledge and insight presented.
