Barnet Suicide Prevention Partnership

Barnet Suicide Prevention Partnership (BSPP) brings together local partners to reduce the number of people who die by suicide in Barnet and provide better support to those bereaved. In June 2021, as part of the strategy development process the BSPP collectively agreed the Action Plan 2021-2023. We believe that through the collective actions of the Partners we can achieve the objectives set in the strategy and reduce the number of Barnet residents lost to suicide.

Engagement with people who are Expert by Experience

Last year our engagement with individuals who are expert by experience have improved whilst being mindful of the sensitivities in participating this work. Our experts have been making a difference the way in which the partnership works by sharing their personal stories and shaping preventative actions.

Engagement with working age men in Barnet

The partnership ran a particularly strong suicide prevention campaign, delivered by Community Barnet. The campaign aimed to reduce lives lost to suicide by preventing mental ill-health and suicidality amongst working age men, the largest single group who lose their lives to suicide. The direct engagement with men in the construction industry and the Council’s depot increased awareness of the campaign products and generated interest in mental health and suicide prevention. For the three months of the campaign, no suspected suicides were reported. The campaign has been evaluated with the full report available in Autumn 2022.
