Launch Event

We launched the NetZero Challenge on the 11th December 2023 where participants discussed their ideas and asked questions to the council's leads around the five themes of the challenge.

Inspiration for the Challenge:

This first interactive workshop will showcase inspiring examples of innovation for net zero from communities in the UK and overseas.

Participants will take part in an exercise to calculate carbon footprints followed by information on the five themes of the challenge that came out of the recommendations from the Citizen's Assembly:

If you missed this workshop, you can access the slides here or view the video recording on the side panel.

Getting Your Idea Down on Paper:

The second workshop will focus on completing your Eco-Social Project Model Canvas, a one page method to capture the essential information on how your project idea can be implemented in practice. This includes key operational, marketing, and financial components. The Model Canvas will be used to help determine which ongoing workshops to attend with NatWest. Microsoft and a variety of Community Development organisations before the final submission for judging by the expert panel and finalist exhibition at Brent Cross Shopping Centre.

If you missed this workshop, you can access the slides here or view the video recording on the side panel.

Eco-social Business Model Canvas:

The next step was to complete the Eco-Social Canvas Model for your idea.

Your draft submission should have been sent by Monday 5th February 9pm to farah.ali@barnet.gov.uk with Eco Social Model NetZero Challenge in subject field.

Run by Natwest, this workshop will take place on 13th February at 9-10:30am

Mindset: Our mindset shapes everything we think and everything we do. From the brand of pasta or loo-roll we buy to the top priority business decisions we make. Often these decisions are made for us by our unconscious and could often be holding us back because these decisions are uncertain or uncomfortable – especially just now. Join the NatWest Business Builder team and take a deep dive into The Power of Mindset. We’ll be looking at how our mindset is formed and influenced to understand why different situations feel comfortable or not. You’ll come away with a deeper understanding of your own mindset, where it may be holding you back, and the tools and techniques you need to take the next uncomfortable step.

Customer Discovery: Understanding who your customer is vital to ensuring your business operates as efficiently and profitably as possible, but with customer behaviour being so fluid – especially just now - remaining valuable to customers’ needs to be a regular focus. Join the NatWest Business Builder Team as we explore the different ways you can focus on the problem you solve for your customer, ensuring that what you’re investing precious time and resource into is going to keep them coming back, as you adapt with them. We’ll talk about the why’s, the where’s and the how’s of Customer Discovery so that you come away with a solid understanding of what your next steps and techniques will be to continue to serve your customers.

Run by Natwest, this workshop took place on 29th February at 1-3:30pm

Goal Setting: We all have goals, certain things we strive for; a certain level of turnover, multiple product streams, etc. Goals are usually personal and so when something like COVID-19 comes along, a lot of the goals and plans we put in place must be shelved, leaving us feeling deflated and demotivated. Join the NatWest Business Builder team as we look at creating long term visions to keep you inspired and motivated and keep your business moving forward. We’ll break those visions down into milestones that feel manageable and allow you to feel regular progress whilst keeping the needs of yourself and the business at the heart of every decision you make.

Wrapup Workshop:

The final workshop with Chris Moon is on pitching your idea. Entrants need to prepare a 90 second and some brief supporting information for the final round. Chris will explain the judging criteria using his 5 P's framework. This was developed based on his experience judging hundreds of investment pitches for sustainability projects. During the evening there will also be an opportunity to develop 'elevator' pitches and receive feedback. Access the slides here.
