The challenge
London has world-leading industries and attracts global talent and skills. In 2022, the capital contributed nearly a quarter of the UK’s total output despite only around 13% of the UK’s population living in the capital.
However, in recent years, our city has faced economic challenges and slow growth. This is due to factors such as:
The cost-of-living crisis
Brexit
The COVID-19 pandemic
Climate change
Political instability.
To improve living standards, especially for low and middle-income households, London needs a new approach to economic growth.
In partnership with London Councils, the Mayor of London is working on a London Growth Plan.
The London Growth plan aims to:
Help with the creation of good jobs
Ensure Londoners from all communities can benefit from the city's growth
Enhance and improve Londoners' skills so they're ready for well-paid, quality jobs
Ensure all growth initiatives contribute to net zero.
The approach
Throughout 2024, City Hall will gather feedback from a diverse range of stakeholders to help inform the London Growth Plan.
These stakeholders include:
London boroughs
Education providers including Universities and colleges
Research institutions
Community and voluntary groups
Employers of all sizes and industries
Trade Unions
Londoners.
City Hall wants to understand your real-life experiences of living and working in London. We would love your suggestions for how your experience and feeling of belonging in the city could be improved in London’s economy and job market.
