Your opportunity to have your say on our draft Statement of Community Involvement

A Statement of Community Involvement forms part of Barnet’s Local Plan and outlines the consultation methods on how the Local Planning Authority (LPA) engage and involve local people, business and other organisations when preparing planning policy documents, consulting on planning applications. It sets out:

  • what the LPA consult and engage the community on
  • when the LPA will consult and engage the community
  • who and how the LPA consult and engage with the community, including underrepresented communities in planning
  • ways of involving the community in preparing planning policy documents; and
  • how the LPA will use result of consultation and engagement.

Planning legislation requires Local Planning Authorities (LPAs) to review and update their Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) every 5 years. The council’s existing SCI was published back in 2018, and subsequent addendum in 2020. Since then, there have been changes to planning legislation as well as technological and digital advances which have changed the way that public consultation can be conducted, and the proposed 2025 draft Statement of Community Involvement reflect these changes.
