We asked
We asked for your views on the implementation of parking controls, including the proposed extension of the existing Chipping Barnet (D) Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) in your area EN5, in order to address local parking concerns and demand.

190 consultation packs consisting of letters and a plan of the proposed extension were hand-delivered to all the roads listed above. 25 online and paper responses were received from residents and businesses in the area. This represents a response rate of 13%.
Of the 25 respondents, 16 objected to some elements of the scheme, 7 were in support and 2 were unsure about the inclusion of Mays Lane (between Leeside and Underhill) into the CPZ.
We did
We have reviewed all feedback.
Based on the responses received during the formal parking engagement and the high levels of parking stress identified during the parking stress surveys, it has been agreed that officers will proceed with the extension of the Chipping Barnet D CPZ into Mays Lane (between Leeside and Underhill) and Underhill, which will operate from Monday to Friday between 2pm and 3pm.
Whist the response rate was low, the council is aware of the high parking demand, which is reflected in the outcome of the parking stress surveys and the multi criteria analysis study. There are also safety concerns and congestion issues that need to be addressed
To support the CPZ, we will introduce the below:
Parking Bay Types
- Permit parking bays will be introduced in areas where traffic is high, and therefore the organisation of parking is important to maintain the flow of traffic.
- Paid for (cashless) parking bays would be introduced where appropriate in suitable locations to serve the community and support local businesses.
Safety Features
- Single Yellow Lines would be installed across dropped kerbs in the roads where parking bays are introduced.
- Double Yellow lines would only be installed at junctions, bends and other areas were identified that the sightlines are obstructed and larger vehicles such as emergency services would have issues accessing the roads. This would also improve traffic flow/congestion and would deter erroneous parking and enable enforcement of obstructive and dangerous parking, especially at junctions.
Letters were sent to residents on 17 October 2025 with further details on how we will implement the Chipping Barnet D CPZ into Mays Lane(between Leeside and Underhill) and Underhill ahead of its launch. You can read the letter here.
